Offsite Blogging CXCVI
I cover the same upcoming event on both bike-shop blogs I work for this week, which is the "Northeast LA Bicycle Friendly Business District Announces Holiday Shopping Ride: Shop â€" Ride â€" NELA" cash mob, a cheerful invasion of bike-borne shoppers fanning out through LA's first Bicycle Friendly Business District—which is, of course (this being LA), a "pilot program."

So read both reports and take your pick:

On Orange 20 Bikes.

And on Flying Pigeon LA.

This week Orange 20 Bikes presents a collaborative post, written in part by little ol' me, advising all to Crank It Up for Cranksgiving! (And if you don't know what that is, we explain....)

Meanwhile, Flying Pigeon LA shows us how Carfree Cargo carrying shows us how you can in fact live here without a car.

On Paper Now!
E-books are a wonderful new way to make literature more accessible to more people, but, let's face it, unless you have a good dedicated e-book reader, it's much more satisfying (and easier on the eyes) to read on paper. And so, we now have my collection of urban essays, "Our Own Day Here," available in a cozy little pocketbook edition produced by Lulu.com. Same great cover, same fine words, same provocative urban rants, and a good touch of humor now and then.

And you can buy it right now at Lulu.com!

Bicycle Fixation Merino on Sale till December 22nd!
With winter and the holidays creeping ever nearer, we've decided to put our merino wool items on sale at 25% off.

Our New Urban Jersey, which can serve through three seasons as a single garment, a light jacket, or a mid layer, normally $135.00, is available now for only $99.00. This is the non-hoodie variant of our famous Four Season Jersey, whose praises you can read by clicking here.

And our Merino V-Neck T-Shirt, which I wear on nearly every ride year-round, has been reduced from $75.00 to just $56.25.

These prices are good until the day after the Winter Solstice, December 22nd. And we ship all domestic orders via Priority Mail, so you'll receive them within three days anywhere in the USA.

Pure merino goodness, with wool imported by us directly from New Zealand.

This week's Orange 20 post offers Neighborhood Councils: a Primer, while this week's Flying Pigeon post shows a neighborhood council in action, Getting Friendly on the "FriendlyRide."

Which is our best hope for getting LA to grow up and become a city already....

If you like the idea of engaging in Advocacy…with Cookies, get yourself over to the Friendly Ride through Hollywood this Sunday; details courtesy of Orange 20 Bikes.

Meanwhile, take a look at Flying Pigeon LA for an idea of what the Dance of the Dinosaurs that was our last election might mean for LA County cycling.
